Tax return deadline
As per the Australian Taxation Office data, approximately 6 million individuals are yet to submit their tax returns for the latest financial year.
The deadline for filing your own tax return with the Australian Taxation Office is October 31. If you miss this deadline, you might face a late lodgement penalty of $313, and this can increase by the same amount every 28 days the return remains outstanding, up to a maximum of $1,565.
If you believe you won’t meet the October 31 deadline, it’s advisable to consult a tax agent. They can help you benefit from an extended tax lodgement deadline until May 15, 2024. However, you must register with the agent by October 31 to avail of this extension.
