CPA Australia Taxation Discussion GroupShow me How: Refresh your knowledge of the ATO app and myID

Fraud continues to rise and is particularly active around tax time. When your clients are impacted by fraud, it can also affect your practice. Tools such as myID, online access strength, and the ATO app play an important role in helping clients better protect their ATO accounts.

In late March 2026, we introduced the Verify call feature in the ATO app. This new function allows taxpayers to confirm they are genuinely speaking with the ATO if we contact them and warns them if the call cannot be verified so they can treat it as a potential scam.

Following its release, we’ve written directly to taxpayers to encourage use of the ATO app. We now want to support you, as trusted tax professionals, with a refresher on the ATO app, myID and online access strength, so you have the confidence and information to guide your clients.

The ATO app is designed to benefit all taxpayers, including those who have their tax affairs managed by a tax professional. Its security features help protect clients year‑round, and it also includes practical tools that can make managing tax simpler for both you and your clients.

This one‑hour session will provide a detailed walkthrough of:
– myID and online access strength, and how they help protect taxpayers from account takeover
– Security features in the ATO app, along with an overview of other useful functions you can use with clients, such as myDeductions.

The session will include demonstrations of the ATO app features and an opportunity for you to ask questions.
